About Venerria
There's something about life after 50 that is wonderful and freeing. As I enter my 54th year, I am making my place in the world on my own terms. This website is born, in part, out of my 'place-making' endeavors. Personally shy, having the audacity to create a website of this nature is huge.
The eldest child of parents born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, my work ethic and faith undergird everything in my life. The tenacity and survival skills I acquired growing up on Chicago's westside have served me well in all facets of my life. I earned my college degree in Journalism from Northwestern U. In 1978, I went to the Pacific Northwest to earn an MBA and remained there for 30 years, most of that time in Seattle. My joys include reading, writing, cooking, major league baseball, pro football, travel, art, music and fashion.
Even as recently as five years ago, I couldn't have imagined the many twists and turns my life would take. Perhaps that's why I'm as surprised as anyone to find myself now living on the beach in northeast Florida; a newlywed happily married to my loving husband of eleven months and embarking upon a new phase of life. Family has always been most important to me. I have raised three children and am step mom to a fourth--all are now young adults and gainfully occupied.
Professionally, my expertise is leading organizations. I especially enjoy building morale and productivity in new, transitioning or dysfunctional organizations. The bulk of my experience is in the local government and non profit sectors. My track record of success and style of "quiet competence" have earned the respect of a wide professional network.
